RAD: Recreation for Adults with Disabilities

For most families the summer is a time to relax and enjoy time off. Unfortunately, for families with a child with a developmental disability the summer can be a time to dread. The school year comes to an end and many Broward County residents with developmental disabilities (DD) are left with nothing to do during the day. With this in mind, LIFE’s Board of Directors has decided to fund summer respite activities to both ease the burden on family members and to ensure that individuals with DD do not languish at home but are out in the community as active participants in all that Broward County has to offer.

RAD is a free summer program that runs five days per week.  Without this program these Broward county residents would remain virtual prisoners in their homes with nowhere to go.  In addition, many of their parents would have to miss work in order to stay home with their adult children who cannot remain at home independently.
